About Us

In 2012 I visited the community where I grew up in Jamaica.  I was touched by the poverty that’s still exists there, children going to school without book bags to carry their books in and some did not even have shoes on. I vowed that I would do what I can to assist these kids, and so my quest begin.  The Edith Moulton Foundation was founded that December. I named it in memory of my grandmother because she was a loving, generous presence in that community. I was also its first donor.  Over the following year, I gradually bought and accumulated 100 book bags and enough school supplies to help 220 kids go back to school.

I was moved by a story my mom told me about some troubled kids in the community who were always getting into fights at school and in trouble with the law. A brave 26-year-old young man brought together these 18 boys and formed a soccer team, so instead of fighting each other, they now play together. These boys are doing well, but they are playing soccer without proper equipment and there are constant injuries and accidents, broken toes and sprained ankles. I made it another personal quest to get soccer gear for these kids. This year my quest was successful; through donations I got the boys shoes and other gear. I am proud to say some of these boys are now honor students and now well respected in their communities.

My larger plan for this community is to have a recreation center set up so these kids can have access to the internet for homework and after-school tutoring with the help of retired teachers from that community. There will also be a music center where they can learn to play an instrument. So far, I have already gotten a drum set for this program, but it is in need of donated keyboards or any other instruments. This order seems very tall but it is possible with the help of generous people.

My quest for this Christmas season is to bring joy to these kids with gifts. I want to be able to give at least 250 kids a smile on Christmas morning with your help. This is a very worthy cause, actually changing the lives of children and their families with small or large donations of money or items that are needed. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Sincerely,

Lorna Lothian
